This isn't a post looking for players for anything specific. At the moment I'm a bit too busy to be throwing myself at anything, but I do want to poke around for interest when it comes to the following:
Any interest among players/GMs to try out GURPS at some point? It is my favourite system for sure, and I'd like to see if there's anyone around who might be up for having a go at it at some undetermined point in the future.
For those who are completely clueless as to what I'm talking about, I'll provide a short description of the system:
G.U.R.P.S (Generic Universal RolePlaying System) is basically a collection of non-genre specific rules that you can use to create whatever hell kind of world and characters you want. There are rules that could be considered the "core" rules, but in theory, every single rule in the entire rulebook is optional in order to provide world-builders with the exact kind of world they want.
It can be used to replicate your favourite pre-existing setting, or be used to make exciting new ones.
One of its strong points is that it's pretty closely grounded in reality, and provides the option of making campaigns that closely reflect real life.
Fighting, for instance, is in most tabletop games looked forward to as a chance to earn XP and show off. In GURPS, if the campaign is tailored for such, combat is a terrifying, dangerous thing that most characters wish to avoid.
A nasty hit with a sword could cost you an arm, maybe an eye, or even cripple your spine!
Also there are no levels in GURPS. Everything about your character is determined by a pool of points, which you spend to earn skills, attributes, special powers and pretty much anything you can think of. It also has an extensive list of negative traits you can give your character, like a seriously short temper, a bad back or an old war wound that keeps acting up, even phantom voices in your head that plague you day and night! All of these first and foremost give depth to your character and makes it feel more alive, but it's also worth more points you can spend on goodies!
Anyway, back to my thoughts about a possible future:
What I'm mainly thinking about is a sort of low-fantasy "Game of Thrones"-y campaign, which I would either be GMing or playing in, nothing too specific in mind just yet. I'm mostly just checking to see if this system catches anyone's fancy. If anyone would like to know more I would be happy to talk about it, explain the system more closely and such.
Cheers.
