Hello everyone,
In this thread feel free to post with your experiences or whatever you think is relevant. I'm just going to write a bit about my experience with TTRPGs and the like.
So way back when I first started, 10 or so years ago, I started playing with a small group with AD&D. Nothing too out of the ordinary, I played around trying to find where I fit in class wise, starting with simple things like Fighter and Rogue before trying Wizard. After playing a bit with Wizards, I found a few unique tricks that the DM was not so ok with. (Honestly when you can change the world around you at your whim, how can they not expect that to be abused) Needless to say after about a year I was unable to continue with that group due to infighting and the like, so I decided to DM with some of my friends who were never involved in any TTRPG before.
I didn't do anything major, just some minor campaigns that lasted 4-5 12hr sessions. After a while we transitioned to 3.5 and the others in my group started to DM campaigns of their own, with me playing everything but the arcane caster. Over the last few years since 3.5 got a bit stale and 4.0 doesn't seem worth it we decided to try other systems like Rune Quest, Maid RPG, Call of Cthulhu and the like. Eventually we decided to create our own system, which took roughly 3 months and played nicely with our small group but after a few sessions had obvious and glaring issues and was eventually trashed.
Roughly 2 years ago everyone in my group moved away due to schooling and we occasionally do an online campaign, but not as frequently as I would like. As I am currently a full time student, I have time during the summer and early winter/spring seasons where I don't have much to do. I'm currently running 1 campaign and am participating in another (doesn't start for another few weeks).
For anyone who might be interested in Campaigning with me, I would have you know I am pretty creative with whatever situation comes along (Upsetting many a GM) and try to keep it interesting for those who are campaigning with me. For those who I am DMing for, it takes a couple sessions before I get to know how you play the game before I can really do something interesting (Ex. One campaign I did had a bunch of PCs who would run in and murder everything without regard. Until I started giving the Goblins suicide vest that is) However I try not to pull any GM BS like some people and explain it in game if you are so inclined to find out why (For the previous example, the goblins had learned how to create gunpowder from an Antagonist in the story and due to their nature were adapt at being suicide bombers)
